Villar Copies Award Winning Campaign Ad of Argentina's Presidential Candidate

Running out of ideas!

Manny Villar's latest scrolling political ad being shown in all television stations is an excellent piece of advertising work...so I thought until I read "Argentina, The Philippines and The Manny Villar Connection" at Barrio Siete.

It turned out it was merely copied from an award winning political advertisement of Argentina's Presidential Candidate Lopez Murphy! Here's the original ad that was copied by Villar -

This guy will really do anything to get the presidency!

  2. Let me start by saying that I enjoy your site, I find your drop list very helpful and your writing entertaining and informative. In the case of this post I have to disagree. If in fact he used a political campaign ad from another country as a "basis" for one of his own...so what? A yellow ribbon was an idea from a Carpenters song. It then became a symbol for American War Heroes. Should the Aquino camp get the same criticism then? Do they speak Filipino in Argentina? No? Then I guess there was more originality in connection with Villar than with Aquino. Look back also at the first commercial of Aquino. The one with all the torches. Looks just like a commercial that addressed the Hacienda Luisita Massacre. Who made that mistake? I find it interesting that all the attacks started with an accusation of plunder. That held no steam so instead of finding other examples of plunder or some added criminal activity, Villar's detractors are complaining about how much of his own money he is spending on commercials and ideas supposedly stolen from Argentina. If Argentina had an effective method for dealing with poverty that was proven to work would these people complain if this idea was copied? Lets worry about who has the better track record and agenda for this country. Take care my friend. Just my opinion?
